Big Game Hunting Safaris - Tanzania



Tanzania will always be regarded as the “old lady” of the hunting world, East Africa is where the African safari industry started and today offers some of the finest species selection anywhere in Africa. From Maasailand in the North to the famous Selous Game Reserve in the South the variety and vastness of terrain and abundance of wildlife is astounding. Let PSSA take you to a new level of hunting in the true African wilderness. Tanzania hunting season dates are 1 July to 31 December.

Rates shown below are per hunter in USD and may differ from actual safari quote, depending on number of clients and miscellaneous options. Trophy fees, air charters, and miscellaneous options are not included in rates shown on this page. All miscellaneous options are listed below.

Companion Hunters:

Companion Hunters & Observers Companion hunts allow two clients to share the game on a 10, 16, 21 or 28 day license normally set aside for one hunting client. Both clients share one Professional Hunter (2x1) and will accompany each other on safari. Both clients have hunting licenses, allowing trophies to be exported separately. Companion hunts are only available during 1x1 or 2x2 combination safaris.

Daily rate inclusive of the following:
  1. 7, 10, 16, 21 or 28 days of hunting or observer days in field plus travel days to and from your hunting area.
  2. Estimated Government conservation fees, hunting licenses, concession/block fees, and local taxes. Government rates may be subject to increase. Actual 2010 rates may vary and are applicable to the year-of safari.
  3. All luxury camp accommodations during the safari.
  4. Professional Hunter(s) services and trained safari staff services. One 4-wheel drive vehicle with each Professional Hunter, equipped with satellite communications, winch, refrigerator, medical bag and a comprehensive set of tools and spares.
  5. Provision of all camp equipment to the highest standard.
  6. Finest quality locally available foods, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages.
  7. Field preparation of trophies (skinning and salting) and transfer to Arusha.
  8. Dipping, processing, crating, packing, export documentation for trophies and transportation to the airport ready for export.
  9. Comprehensive first-aid kits in each camp and complimentary membership in medical air-evacuation program if client does not already have current program.

Daily rate excludes:
  1. Actual 2010 Government Game Trophy Fees, Anti-poaching & Conservation fees (see Total Trophy Fee amounts on “Trophy Fees & Species Availability” list above.
  2. Final Government imposed licenses, trophy fees, area fees, or other. These rates may be subject to change without advance notification, and are also dependent on species and total number of animals shot during the safari.
  3. * Elephant Surcharge Fee: any elephant shot or wounded during a regular priced 21-28 day safari in the Selous must pay an additional surcharge of $6,500 regardless of trophy size, plus associated trophy fee rate per category/size of bull elephant.
  4. Import permits for firearms or bows, or rental of company firearms and cost of ammunition.
  5. Miscellaneous items such as additional baiting vehicle and satellite phone/internet use ($3 per minute phone, $10 per mb used).
  6. Import permits for CITES listed animals such as leopard & elephant, and freight charges for trophies and personal belongings from Tanzania to country of final destination.
  7. Air transport to and from Tanzania and air transfers or private charters within Tanzania (See Air Charter Rates). Charter rates are per plane and subject to change without notice. Each safari client/group will be quoted on individual basis.
  8. Air charters/transfers or commercial airfare for requested Professional Hunter area change.
  9. Hotel expenses in Dar es Salaam or Arusha before and after the safari.
  10. Champagne and specially requested imported food and drink.
  11. . Tanzania Tourist Visas and airport departure taxes.
  12. Transfer fees from Nairobi to Dar Es Salaam or Arusha, and firearms clearing, meet and greet and ground transfers in Nairobi.

LION: company policy restricts lion hunting to males of at least 6 years of age and without young cubs in the pride.

ELEPHANT: Company policy restricts elephants to mature males of at least 45 pounds on one tusk.



Miscellaneous Safari Options & Fees


  1. Firearm import fee of $200-00 USD per firearm, includes up to 200 rounds of ammunition for that firearm. Each hunting clients may import up to 3 firearms of different calibers, maximum of 1 shotgun.
  2. Additional baiting vehicle and baiting crews $400-00 USD per day. Excluding baits.
  3. Additional vehicle and professional guide $600-00 USD per day.
  4. Satellite phone @ $3-00 USD per minute or $10-00 USD per mb downloaded or sent.

Air Charters


All air charter are quoted as return flights not as single legs.
Hunts for Maasiland and Rungwa are based out of Arusha.
Hunts for the Selous Game Reserve are based out of Dar es Salaam.
Combo area safaris will be quoted on an individual basis, depending on where the safari starts and ends.

All Charters quoted above are for a Cessna 208. Maximum group size is 6(six) people including professional hunters. All departure and arrival times, routing, passengers, cargo and rates for air transfers are determined at the discretion of the charter service and are subject to change without advance notice. For groups less than 3 people a Cessna 206 may be available at lower rates. For groups larger than 8 people it may be necessary to book two charter flights, or a larger plane if available. All safari charters will be quoted on a group by group basis. Road transfer to/from Arusha and Maasailand area is also available at a rate of $350 each way.


Terms and Payment Conditions

  1. A deposit of 50% of the total daily rate is required to confirm a booking if the safari is within 365 days of commencement.
  2. See Terms & Conditions for payment information on booking safaris more than 365 days in advance. Full pre-payment for your safari must be received 90 days prior to the start of your safari. If you arrive in Tanzania without having paid in full, you will not be permitted to start your safari.
  3. Additional trophy fees in excess of any initial deposit are due to Outfitter prior to departure from Tanzania. Cash or wire transfers are preferred. A final invoice from Paul Stones Safaris Africa detailing all additional safari and misc expenses, payments to-date and final charges will be provided to the client or booking agent by PSSA, at the end of the Client's safari. Any credit due to client will be refunded at that time.
  4. Trophies are shipped by outfitter only after full payment for safari or other pre-shipment costs have been received by PSSA.
  5. Daily Outfitting Charges and Government Game & Area Fees are non-refundable.All Tanzania Government Fees are subject to change without notice. Any additional taxes, fees, licenses, trophy fees or other charges imposed by the Tanzanian Government are the responsibility of the client.
  6. Game Trophy Fees actually charged will be those applicable to the year the safari is taken regardless of what is quoted on initial invoices. Invoices and quotes are subject to change based on any change in Government Fees and/or Game Trophy Fees. In the event that you do not collect an animal which you sought while on safari, no trophy fee will apply and any unused deposit paid towards game trophy fees will be applied to the final balance of the Clientʼs safari, or refunded after the completion of the Clientʼs safari. Trophy fees - including community development fees - are applicable to all animals bagged or wounded and lost.
